Nantong Bars

There are a number of bars that cater to the foreign or western trade in Nantong, most within walking distance of each other.  This does not mean, by any means, that alcoholism is rampant or out of control in Nantong.  The vast majority of foreigners who frequent bars are responsible drinkers who meet at the bars primarily for socializing with other foreigners and the occasional Chinese co-worker, colleague or associate.

Most hotels have a bar of some sort, though not typically what is found in Western hotels.  All restaurants sell beer at the very least and allow patrons to bring in their own bottles of liquor.  Smoking is permitted in all restaurants and bars.

Captain's Bar and Grill:  Most likely the best known bar for foreigner's in Nantong.  This is by far the largest bar and restaurant catering primarily to foreigners in Nantong.  One of the drawing cards for Captain's is its happy hour from 5:00 to 8:00 PM daily.  All drinks and appetizers enjoy a 30% discount during this period.  Some of the appetizers are virtually a meal in themselves.  All of the staff speak excellent to passable English.  See Map
