Nantong Restaurants
Eating in Nantong is
never a problem. There are restaurants on virtually every
corner and between 5 and 10 restaurants in between them. There
are also numerous "open front" shops that sell a wide variety of
food. It is somewhat difficult for a person eating alone, as
the quantity of all food prepared in a regular restaurant serving
Chinese food is prepared for 2 people. In China, eating is a
communal event, with everyone eating from the same main dish or
dishes.
Local Nantong Chinese
food may not please everyone. It is not your traditional
Chinese cooking, but instead consists of a lot of noodles, a bit of
meat or fish and few vegetables. The fish is typically fresh
water fish. All meals are a bit bland, but there are plenty of
chilies to add to your fare.
Nantong is also host
to fast food restaurants of different names and varieties including
KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and McDonalds. Be forewarned that
the menus at those two restaurants are not similar to what you would
expect in a Western country, but instead designed to appeal to local
Chinese tastes.
